A proud moment. A person I was counselling came to me with a severe PTS. An event that occurred in their real life returned in their nightmare, being overseas serving their country, when the unthinkable happened. Blue on Blue. A subordinate defying orders and decided to change course and bulldoze unarmed protestors. The only thing protecting them was him. Up on aim, finger on the trigger. That moment where he committed to shoot. Lingered. He did not understand what he did or why he was congratulated. Just seeing his subordinate through the sight. Committed to stopping the driver from doing something darker.

We worked on that thought. Expanding his view from the sight. Exploring his actions and what the results were. He stopped innocent people from getting bulldozed by a truck and potentially the caravan. He stopped an escalation. He stopped a global incident. Just him. Having that presented in that way, looking up from the sight. Seeing the bigger picture, in a way he could accept. Clicked.

His nightmares ended. I was proud to be part of that. #veteran #ptsd #nightmares #doingthework #counseling #counsellorlife #proud
